Agile: The Fast Break in Coaching

What is agile? Think of it the the fast break in coaching.

“Everyone needs a coach. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a basketball player, a tennis player, a gymnast or a bridge player. We all need people who will give us feedback. That’s how we improve.”

– Bill Gates

To the Philippine Basketball Association fans, our coach needs no introduction. For the rest, you may get to know more of him at ChotReyes.com and here. Luckily, he expanded his reach from exclusive to basketball to include corporate learning programs and coaching. It is of course here, where executives and coaches such as myself got the chance to work with and learn from him.

Today’s conversation was inspiring, thought provoking and action oriented. He generates that excitement that takes ideas to action, fast. Although, of course, some of it would take a bit more time to digest, several are actionable. I think this is one of Coach Chot’s signature styles – learnings that are readily applicable. Agile.

I have been coaching, counselling and consulting in the corporate space in the organization for the past 14 years. Recently, I decided to go out and start my own coaching practice, focusing on strengths and personality and well being. Of course with the help of my family and friends. I knew this is what I wanted to do for the next years all the way to retirement and beyond. I thought though I would start slow and inch my way as I retire. But, thanks to Coach Chot, in a span of a few weeks, my clients grew from 0 (yes, nada) to 43. And 40 of them were from his referral line (and referrals of referrals of referrals and so on and so forth – I wish I could name them all, but first I will ask for their go).

I also have a friend and former boss who convinced me to start practicing. Thank you, Dhey! #activator

Strengths At Work In Agile Coaching

Chot Reyes’ Top 5

  1. Achiever
  2. Activator
  3. Communication
  4. Strategic
  5. Ideation

I very much sense Chot’s signature CliftonStrengths themes in our conversation. In the coaching session, he is lending his strengths to benefit others as well. Activator and Communication for example are not dominant for me personally, so being able to speak with someone who have these as talents is a gift. Like him, I also have high achiever, strategic and ideation, which means that he makes an excellent thought partner for me.

If you are wondering what your Signature CliftonStrengths Themes are, feel free to write to me via the contact button and we’ll explore it together. 🙂
