President Rodrigo Duterte has declared Thursday, 13 May 2021, a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr or the culmination of the fasting of Ramadan. Duterte made the declaration on Monday through Proclamation No. 1142, signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, heeding the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. As this holiday falls on a Thursday, employees might get excited to file a leave for Friday to give themselves a long weekend rest. However, it is good to check on your company’s policy on filing leaves, especially for the day after a holiday.
Keep in mind also that we are still in a pandemic and that safety should be the priority. Follow the protocols if going out is really a necessity. Wear your face mask and shield properly, distance yourself from other people, and wash hands or use alcohol frequently.
Nevertheless, if you have no essential reason to go out, it’s best to stay home. Take care of yourself, write down things you are grateful for, chat with your loved ones, snack on fruits or vegetables, catch up on your favorite shows or books, or take on a hobby.
Here’s a copy of the official document as it was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines.
Thank you and all the best!
