Unravel and Start Anew

In the world of crochet, “unravel” is a dreaded term. It means you have to undo what you have so lovingly and patiently created to, usually, make corrections. Sometimes it is just a couple of stitches back, other times it is a couple of miles long!

In the picture was supposed to be a dress for my daughter. When I started making it, she was only 2 years old. Now, she's three and of course bigger and taller. Plus, I think I used the wrong kind of yarn here. 100% Cotton - already heavy and not even half way done. So now that I am interested in the zero-waste lifestyle (though more like reduced-waste lifestyle), I unravelled the cotton yarns to turn them into reusable facial cotton pads!Turning and old unfinished work into reusable cotton pads!

To unravel is physically very easy, all you have to do is to keep on pulling the yarn. It can be a psychologically painful process, though. To watch your hard work and hours spent go to waste. Although, it is necessary, so you can have a wonderful output. We never unravel to make something look worse. Always, we unravel to make our work look lovelier, a more beautiful piece of craft. We can also unravel a work, not just to rework but to create an entirely different piece, or pieces, if we feel stuck or messed up too much on the other.

The same is true in life – even our corporate lives. Sometimes we mess up, sometimes we feel stuck, not growing nor progressing in our job or project. Sometimes we feel as if we are not in the place we want, not in the place where we could feel fulfilled and where we could better serve our purpose. Remember, you don’t have to stay there.

Don’t worry, resignation is not always the answer. Speak with your Coach/Manager, your HR Partner, or your Mentor to share your thoughts and ask for guidance to move forward. A new project, an additional scope and responsibility or a new role might be the answer.

Remember that you always have the option to unravel and go back to start over. You also have the option to unravel and create something new!

The New Year is a great reminder for all of us that no matter our age, our nationality or state in life. We can always start something fresh, something new, always a better version.

Happy New Year! Happy unraveling and starting something new! 🙂

  1. Thank you Emile, I hope to take a peek.
Coincidentally I had a very positive dental hygienist experience this morning which renewed my faith in health services. The girl’s inter personal skills and expertise were second to none which I acknowledged and thanked her for.
Somehow I didn’t feel old, stupid and invisible which is sometimes the case. 😊❤️

  2. I’m glad to hear I am able to help in my small way, Margaret. Please feel free to join me and my team as we move forward with the 30-Day Challenge. You are also, always welcome to write should you need to process or share. 🙂

I hope these are subsiding. It takes time but always there’s a way out. And once we find it, we emerge as better and brighter people. 🙂

  3. Hi Emile,
Happy 2021 to you and yours,
Great to see you back again and with your 30 day challenge.
Since my rocky post retirement start and a challenging end of career post illness leading to retirement It is only now I realise what a knock this did to my confidence even though I have ‘survived’.
Maybe now I can crack on with my memoir now that those, what I only now realise, were bitter feelings, are subsiding.
Thank you for allowing me that reflection .
